The term was first communicated at the TechTide conference in 2018 by the originators Philipp Becker (Vision Lasertechnik) and Dr. Jens Kotlarski (voraus robotik), who had the vision early on to unite the strong robotics activities in Hannover under one roof. In 2022, the official umbrella brand "Robotics City Hannover" was founded by the Ministry of Economic Affairs of Lower Saxony, Leibniz Universität Hannover, the Hannover Region and other strong partners from science and industry. The aim is to develop a central platform under which the diversity in the field of robotics at the location can be united.
We are the information platform for the field of robotics in the Hannover region. In addition to the latest robotics news and success stories from the Hanover region, you will find an overview of local events, current projects, funding opportunities and local players in the field of robotics. We are the competence network to actively promote and jointly implement ideas and activities in the field of robotics in the Hannover Region.

Leibniz University Hannover

As one of the nine leading technical universities in Germany, Leibniz University Hannover believes it has a responsibility to contribute to solving key future challenges. Its expertise in this area stems from its broad spectrum of subjects, ranging from engineering and natural sciences, architecture and environmental planning, law and economics to social sciences and humanities, with 85 degree courses currently on offer. The Institute of Mechatronic Systems (imes), the Institute of Assembly Technology and Industrial Robotics (match) and the Institute of Automatic Control (IRT) are particularly active in the field of robotics. In addition to various research topics, they also offer a wide range of courses in robotics. In order to bring robotics as a future technology closer to other target groups in addition to students, IRT and imes founded the "roboterfabrik" in 2016 as a training and meeting place for people interested in robotics.
Economic and employment promotion of the Hannover Region

The aim of the Hannover Region Economic Development and Employment Promotion Agency is to develop the Hannover economic region and make it fit for the future. We are committed to creating business-friendly conditions and promoting the competitiveness of companies. In addition to business-friendly infrastructure and competent services for companies and start-ups, securing qualified employment by promoting young talent and securing skilled workers are key fields of action. Supporting digital transformation processes and promoting key technologies such as robotics have been priority topics for years. Since 2013, the Hannover Region has been supporting robotics projects at schools, universities and SMEs, thereby making a significant contribution to the commitment to robotics in the Hannover region. In 2022, we founded the registered brand Robotics City Hannover together with the Lower Saxony Ministry of Economic Affairs and other strong partners.
Deutsche Messe Technology Academy

The Deutsche Messe Technology Academy was founded in 2009 as a joint initiative of Deutsche Messe AG and Volkswagen AG. The Technology Academy sees itself as a platform for industrial knowledge transfer and has strong partners at its side - leading companies from the production technology sector, public initiatives for innovation and technology transfer, research institutions, universities and specialist publishers. Leading automation and robotics companies are represented throughout the year with their exhibits at Technology, thus combining theory and practice. In numerous events, the Technology Academy enables production experts to expand their knowledge in the fields of automation and robotics in particular. Participants benefit from a wide range of courses tailored to the requirements of the industry and aimed at both beginners and experts. The manufacturers' exhibits are included in the interactive events.
Robotics City Hannover has been a permanent cooperation partner of the annual Robotics Congresses organized by the Technology Academy since 2024.
Robospace gGmbH
robospace gGmbH is the non-profit sponsor of the Roberta Regiozentrum Hannover and a key player in Robotics City Hannover. As an educational institution with a focus on technology, it brings digital skills for the future to life for children, young people and educational institutions - creatively, practically and inclusively.
In workshops, projects and training courses, robospace imparts knowledge about robotics, programming, AI and STEM topics. Schools and teachers are accompanied and supported in the development and expansion of digital education. A particular focus is on equal opportunities and participation: Technology should be accessible to everyone - regardless of gender, background or previous knowledge. With robospace, a place is being created in Hanover where digital education is lived, shaped and promoted - networked, sustainable and with a view to the future.
Robokind Foundation

The Robokind Foundation, founded in 2018 and based in Hanover, is committed to making robotics and artificial intelligence accessible to everyone. With its foundation concept and its projects funded by the Hannover Region, the Lower Saxony Ministry of Social Affairs and the European Social Fund, it pursues a sustainable and long-term strategy to strengthen the skilled workforce in the Hannover Region and the state of Lower Saxony. The Robokind Foundation team is currently working on the KIRIA project, which prepares companies and vocational schools in Lower Saxony for the digital challenges of the future and allows future technologies to be tested in practice. The foundation develops training and further education programs specially tailored to the needs of different target groups with a focus on robotics and artificial intelligence and also regularly offers workshops and information events on the subject. As part of Robotics City, Robokind wants to contribute to making Hanover one of the most important robotics locations in Germany.
Vision Lasertechnik GmbH

Vision Lasertechnik GmbH has been developing, producing and selling laser, robotics and automation systems for medicine and industry for over 30 years. With a value chain that is entirely carried out in Germany and production located near Hanover and in Chemnitz, the "Made in Germany" product is exported to over 20 countries around the world.
With its own branches in Shanghai, Tokyo, Taipei and Seoul and many cooperating service partners, Vision Lasertechnik GmbH offers worldwide service and short response times. Managing Director Philipp Becker has supported the development of Robotics City Hannover since the beginning and is one of the main drivers of the network activities.

With over 30 employees, voraus robotik GmbH is revolutionizing the automation industry. The core product is a software platform that combines the methods of modern software development with those of automation technology - flexible and uncompromisingly reliable. Users can create efficient and sustainable solutions for applications and entire production lines in high-level language and execute them in real time. They can efficiently program, simulate, test and optimize their solution in Python and use the powerful tools of modern software development. A classic PLC is superfluous. This sustainably solves the problem of the availability of experts and future-proofs users, even as requirements grow.
Through close networking with educational institutions at Leibniz Universität Hannover and robospace gGmbH, voraus offers students and pupils insights into the world of automation and is actively involved in research, teaching and training. The founders Jens Kotlarski and Tobias Ortmaier have been key supporters of Robotics City Hannover from the outset and have made a significant contribution to the development of the network in recent years.
TEWISS GmbH
TEWISS - Technik und Wissen GmbH is a subsidiary of Leibniz Universität Hannover and specializes in engineering services, special machines and innovation management. Customers from industry, trade and research are offered comprehensive support from the concept phase through to successful implementation.
The special machinery and engineering services division covers the development, design and construction of special machinery such as production machines, robot systems, test benches, prototypes and other technical systems. TEWISS GmbH development engineers from the disciplines of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and programming develop and provide customized solutions that are tailored to customer requirements.
Robotics is a future-oriented technology component in the development of tomorrow's machines and systems. TEWISS GmbH supports companies in the introduction of robotic systems and, with the robotics center "RoboHub Niedersachsen", offers the opportunity to integrate various existing cobots (lightweight robots) into workshops and test projects. On the basis of successful trials, ready-to-use robot cells can be built for production, for example, and put into operation at the customer's premises.
Timeline of the development of Robotics City Hannover

In 2013, the establishment of the Roberta RegioZentrum was the starting signal for today's Robotics City Hannover! A lot has happened since then and the robotics ecosystem in the Hannover Region has grown steadily. The timeline shows key developments in recent years up to the founding of the Robotics City Hannover umbrella brand in 2022.
In addition to educational players such as the Roberta RegioZentrum and the roboterfabrik at Leibniz Universität Hannover, or the Robokind Foundation, the joint appearance with the IHK Hannover at the IdeenExpo in Hannover has also become established in recent years. Spin-offs in the field of robotics are increasingly being supported and our school and student teams are competing more and more successfully in robotics competitions and have already become world champions several times. The use of robot technology has also become increasingly attractive for SMEs in recent years, which is supported by various pilot projects, the establishment of the RoboHub Niedersachsen and the establishment of regular robotics meet-ups. Today, the Hannover Region has a wide range of activities and players in the field of robotics as well as an ecosystem with nationwide appeal.
