The Hanover region is supporting the establishment of a new real-world laboratory for the future Techfactory. This was decided by the regional assembly on Tuesday. The "Techfactory Real-World Laboratory Hüttenstraße" project will create a practical test field at Hüttenstraße 22B, where usage concepts, interior design, technological equipment, and services for the future operation of the Techfactory will be tested. The aim is to reduce risks, develop targeted offerings, and build a functioning community at an early stage. A total of €150,000 will be made available over the next two years.

The specific plan for the premises on Hüttenstraße

Technologiepark Region Hannover GmbH will rent around 360 square meters of office and meeting space and sublet it flexibly to three to four startups. In addition, rooms for workshops, meetings, and smaller events will also be available for external use. Startups will be actively involved in the design process in order to identify specific requirements for equipment and smart building solutions.

"Thelocation offers an environment that reflects the central functions of the future Techfactory. Its proximity to Leibniz University, good public transport connections, and the creative environment of Nordstadt create favorable conditions for the trial phase."
Ulf-Birger Franz, Head of Economic Affairs

About the Techfactory

Logo techfactory

Techfactory is being developed as another central innovation project for the Hannover region in Nordstadt and complements the technology park at the mechanical engineering campus in Garbsen. It is based on the gradual conversion of buildings belonging to the Hannover Region Hospital, which will become vacant from 2026 as part of the 2030 medical strategy. The region plans to acquire these properties through Technologiepark Region Hannover GmbH and develop them into a location for technology-oriented start-ups, university spin-offs, and research-related companies. The goals are to strengthen the Leibniz University's Nordstadt campus, develop modern office and laboratory space for key technologies, and provide additional housing for students and trainees. In addition, general residential space is to be created on the site.
