Launch of the techfactory Garbsen
The goal is to create a modern environment for startups, academia, businesses, and innovative collaborations—right on the Mechanical Engineering Campus of Leibniz University Hannover.
Important milestone for the technology park
Last week, Technologiepark Region Hannover GmbH signed a lease agreement for approximately 4,600 square meters of space with ONE TechCampus Garbsen GmbH & Co. KG.
Space for innovation, startups, and collaboration
As a wholly owned subsidiary of the Region Hannover, Technologiepark Region Hannover GmbH will be the operator of the techfactory in the future. Its mission is to provide spaces and services for startups, companies, scientific institutions, and business development projects.
Plans include, among other things:
- Workspaces and development areas for startups and scale-ups,
- project spaces for collaborations between students and companies,
- Spaces for research and development projects,
- Workshops, makerspaces, and experimental labs,
- modern event and seminar rooms.
The aim is to create an innovative environment that strengthens the transfer of knowledge and technology between universities, industry, and the startup scene. At the same time, the project supports Leibniz University Hannover’s so-called “Third Mission”—that is, the transfer of scientific knowledge to society and the economy.
Region Hannover Invests in the Future and Economic Development
To ensure the project’s financial stability, the Region Hannover will provide Technologiepark Region Hannover GmbH with an annual subsidy of up to 1.35 million euros from 2028 through 2037. The budget is subject to the relevant budget resolutions.
Important groundwork has already been laid in recent years: Following a successful investor selection process, ONE TechCampus Garbsen GmbH & Co. KG was chosen as the project developer. Additionally, Technologiepark Region Hannover GmbH was founded and endowed with a capital reserve of approximately 4 million euros.
Move-in planned for 2028
Prior to the planned move-in in the third quarter of 2028, the spaces will be extensively equipped, including with furniture as well as modern event and media technology. The recruitment of the necessary staff has also been underway since this year.
With the techfactory Garbsen, a new innovation hub is being created for the entire Hannover region. The project combines science, entrepreneurship, and technology development, creating attractive conditions for startups, research, and economic collaboration.
