Founding story December 2022 Deutsch Express
Deutsch Express helps people who want to find a new home in Germany.
The platform offers immigrants the opportunity to overcome bureaucratic and service-related hurdles easily, quickly, cost-effectively and automatically. The aim is to build bridges and facilitate entry and integration in Germany. Deutsch Express' target group includes students, people who want to work here and family members moving to Germany.
The idea came from Irfan Malik, Mariyam Malik and Zulqarnain Sheikh, who themselves had to struggle with a few hurdles as immigrants. In 2022, they were among the nominees in the Startup Impulse competition, and since then the team has really taken off and received support from various sources. Thanks to Plug & Work, they are now based in Halle 96 and are also supported by Soziovation, the Hannover Region's fund for social-ecological innovation.
Irfan, Mariyam andZulqarnain, how did you come up with the idea of Deutsch Express?
More than 1.5 million people come to Germany every year. They have to comply with numerous, often confusing and challenging rules and obligations in order to live here. We experienced this ourselves as students and told ourselves that it had to be easier. That's how the idea of Deutsch Express came about. On the platform, we provide comprehensive yet easy-to-understand solutions. In this way, we facilitate the migration and integration of newcomers to Germany and help those who are just planning to move here.
What do you offer?
From registrations and visas, taxes and official matters, to insurance, language schools, banking and other services, we provide tips on finding accommodation, telephone and internet, as well as legal assistance in finding lawyers, translation agencies and tax advice. You have to register with us once and we first check whether all the documents to be submitted are available. And then you can get started. For example, you need various insurances to get a visa here. Students also have to open a blocked account with a certain amount of money and much more. With us, you can be sure that everything is taken care of. We now also work together with student advisory services abroad.
How do you finance the service?
We are financed by fees and advertising revenue. Users pay a one-off basic fee starting at 25 euros. If you want, you can book additional services such as our buddy program. From your first step on German soil, you are assigned a person who picks you up from the airport, takes you to your accommodation and gives you tips on the local area.
What are your tips for other founders?
Milestones must be precisely defined. You need a clear focus so that you don't get distracted. Nevertheless, flexibility is also required, especially when working with the authorities. Something can always come up. Then the plan is simply changed without losing sight of the actual goal. Networking is the be-all and end-all for us. Because without a well-functioning network, even the best idea won't get very far. Keep your eyes open and see what funding opportunities are available.

Irfan on the cooperation with hannoverimpuls:
We were one of the nominees in the last Startup-Impuls start-up competition. We learned a lot just by working on the application documents and taking part in coaching sessions and workshops. We always had personal contacts who worked with us to find answers to all our questions.
Peter Eisenschmidt, Head of Internationalization at hannoverimpuls, on the collaboration with the Deutsch Express team:
In our global world, the migration of skilled workers is a very important issue. Unfortunately, the laws and regulations are very complex and applicants are often at a loss. Deutsch Express is a truly needs-oriented and helpful start-up idea that takes an innovative approach and offers customers real benefits. hannoverimpuls supports the founders to the best of its ability. We network, give tips and provide knowledge and contacts. And we are excited to see how the start-up will develop.
