Careers for Life – Career Guidance in Nursing

July 2, 2026– Initiatives to recruit the next generation of professionals in nursing and early childhood education and to provide hands-on career guidance in schools.

The “CAREERS for Life” project aims to spark interest among students in grades 8 and 9 in pursuing training as a certified nursing professional, a social education assistant, an early childhood educator, or a therapeutic care worker, and to highlight the responsibilities and requirements—as well as the opportunities and career prospects—in these fields.

In collaboration with healthcare facilities, daycare providers, institutions for the integration and care of people with disabilities, and the relevant (vocational) technical schools, trainees are trained as apprenticeship ambassadors and sent to schools.

At training fairs or during classroom visits, they provide information about their profession, share their personal experiences, and engage in open dialogue with the young people through hands-on activities. In addition, action days focused on training in the care sector are offered, during which interested young people gain practical insight into various healthcare facilities.

To support career orientation in the education professions, activities such as information days or visits to (vocational) technical schools and practical training facilities are organized, and job-related practical tasks are developed for use at training fairs or in career-oriented classes.

In addition to information on training programs, opportunities for schools and practice partners to use and participate in the project, and references to vocational schools and practice partners offering training in the Hannover region, the project website www.berufe-fuers-leben.de also offers a toolkit containing many of the developed teaching materials, checklists, and practical tasks for career guidance, available for free download.

The project is funded by the Hanover Region and the Hanover Employment Agency.
