Highlighting Diversity Through Reflection in Everyday Work

With short, anonymous prompts, KKH Kaufmännische Krankenkasse encouraged its employees to question their own thought patterns around German Diversity Day. This example shows how diversity communication can be accessible, relevant to everyday life, and have a lasting impact.

With an internal communication campaign centered around German Diversity Day 2026, KKH adopted a deliberately low-barrier approach. Instead of focusing on traditional knowledge transfer, the campaign invited employees to question their own thought patterns and socially conditioned assumptions. The goal was to spark reflection and make diversity visible and tangible in everyday work life.

Brief Prompts Instead of Pre-packaged Answers

Over the course of several days, employees received short, anonymous mini-surveys on various dimensions of diversity—including gender roles, perceptions of age, ideas about family, and weight stereotypes. Participation was voluntary, and the prompts were deliberately designed to be relevant to everyday life and free of judgment. The focus was on shifting perspectives, personal reflection, and exchanging different points of view.

Communication Provides Lasting Food for Thought

The campaign was structured as a multi-stage communication initiative, ranging from a preliminary announcement and accompanying leadership communications to daily prompts and a concluding reflection on German Diversity Day. The positive feedback shows that low-barrier formats, in particular, can provide effective food for thought.

The example of KKH illustrates that diversity communication does not have to be didactic to be effective. Often, the most important insights arise when people begin to consciously question their own perspectives.
