Nursing staff are urgently needed everywhere. Anyone who decides to train as a nursing specialist learns a future-proof and responsible profession and can be employed in hospitals or care facilities, in outpatient care services, in psychiatric care or in the healthcare of children and young people, for example.

With the project "Careers for Life - Career Orientation in Nursing", the Hanover region and the Hanover Employment Agency, together with the association Ausbildung im Verbund pro regio e. V., want to attract more trainees to the nursing professions. The first schools and care facilities are already active in the project and more are being sought.

"The demand for nursing staff has been blatantly high, and not just since corona," emphasizes Ulf-Birger Franz, Head of the Hannover Region's Economic Affairs Department, "which makes it all the more important to get more young people interested in careers in nursing and the diverse prospects of this job profile."

The "Careers for life - careers guidance in nursing" project not only aims to provide information about the occupational field and attract interested young people, but also to bring general and vocational schools and healthcare facilities into contact with each other. The project costs a total of almost 200,000 euros and is funded in equal parts by the Hanover region and the Hanover Employment Agency.

"The pandemic has made it clear how important nurses are for society. The opportunity for young people to gain exciting insights into this occupational group will help them to gain clarity about whether they want to learn these professions," explains Heike Döpke, Chairwoman of the Management Board of the Hanover Employment Agency.

If you would like to find out more, you can find all the information about the nursing profession at https://berufe-fuers-leben.de/ . The newly launched website provides an overview of the training and also provides information about the project's fields of activity.

A total of 25 trainees in their second year of training as nursing specialists are to become training ambassadors and promote their profession in general education schools - at eye level and in a practical way.

"The training courses for the ambassadors will start in the fall with the vocational schools in Hanover, Springe and Neustadt," reports project manager Yvonne Salewski from pro regio e. V.

With the Albert-Einstein-Schule Laatzen, the Leonore-Goldschmidt-Schule Mühlenberg, the KGS Sehnde and the Realschule Lehrte, pro regio has already been able to convince four general education schools to include the project in their compulsory elective program. In July, there will be a workshop for teachers on how to participate in the project.

"We've opened doors at the schools. The micro-projects with healthcare facilities should become an integral part of career guidance," says project manager Salewski happily.

She also hopes that even more schools will take advantage of the offer through the website.

Action days in healthcare facilities, digital tasks and a learning workshop to borrow help pupils to explore their interests and strengths in a very practical way. Materials for schools and healthcare facilities are also available on the website.

"We are grateful for this form of placement," reports Alexandr Vogelsang, Managing Director of care provider Medizin Mobil, one of the project's first six practice partners.

Other healthcare facilities and care services in the Hannover Region are also welcome to become practice partners and attract young people to training in the care sector.
