Second network meeting for location communities 2023
City of Hanover The event on June 15 was all about the traffic turnaround in Hanover.
After the Lord Mayor of the State Capital of Hanover, Belit Onay, welcomed the guests from the location communities, the guest lecture immediately followed.
Carolin Kruse, Managing Director of Fair Spaces GmbH from Berlin, answered the question: "How can the traffic turnaround succeed in mixed-use districts?" Successful examples from New York, Copenhagen and Ljubljana were shown. This was followed by a discussion on how the findings could be transferred to Hanover.
City of Hanover Anja Ritschel, Head of Economic and Environmental Affairs for the City of Hanover, chaired the discussions and moderated the evening. She also referred once again to the city's "Shopping in Hanover" advertising campaign. The advertisements call on people to store in local stores. A campaign from which the local communities and their members in particular should also benefit.
City of Hanover Key points of the transport and mobility turnaround in Hanover:
Lord Mayor Belit Onay presented his concept. It is about better accessibility. Streets should not be closed, but opened up in order to redesign mobility and upgrade spaces. The mobility turnaround is intended to strengthen the city center. The aim is to shift car parking in the city center from public spaces to parking garages. The parking garages will remain accessible to car traffic.
The topic generated a lot of discussion and the guests from the location communities had the opportunity to address the Lord Mayor and the speaker Carolin Kruse directly. This allowed misunderstandings to be cleared up and questions answered.
