Ecologically optimized bento boxes

The carbon footprint is a measure that can be used to calculate the total carbon dioxide emissions caused by the manufacture, use or disposal of a product. Crafting Future GmbH is working on identifying ways to reduce the amount of emissions.
The company is currently cooperating with the regionally funded 3D printing consortiumHannover, an association of the three companies DreiConsulting| Additive Manufacturing Germany GmbH & Co KG,LikeAbirdand Formwerk3D. These three companies operate an experimental laboratory, which is supported by the Hanover Region Economic Development Agency, in order to convey the advantages of additive technologies to small and medium-sized companies.
The consortium is supporting the project to produce bento boxes from Crafting Future GmbH as ecologically efficiently as possible in the future.
Bento boxes originally come from Japan. By stacking individual containers inside each other, different foods can be transported separately.
The project consortium is currently supporting Crafting Future GmbH in accelerating product development through iterative rapid prototyping. This involves repeatedly producing and testing new product versions in a short space of time. The experience gained in each case is then used for further improvements. In this context, the experimental laboratory also helps to make the development process more sustainable.
The latest product version is already made exclusively from bio-based and recyclable materials that can be 100% reprocessed into new boxes using shredders and filament extruders. Blue-colored parts made of PLA (polylactic acid) were produced using the FDM (fused deposition modeling) process. The black lid is printed from flexible TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane) - also recyclable.
As soon as the final design has been finalized, the consortium plans to make series production as CO2-neutral as possible. The IfBB, the Institute for Bioplastics and Biocomposites at Hanover University of Applied Sciences and Arts, will also be involved in this.
